At 28, I Blew My Dream Job...

...and I don't want the same for you.

I understand that this an About page and that, traditionally, About pages read like a Greatest Hits albums of credentials and accomplishments...

...but, I wanted this one to be a little different.

In lieu of resume-sharing or story-telling, I’m going to do a little soul-baring.

Instead of telling you where I went to school (okay, fine, here’s a hint: 8-clap) and the roles, responsibilities, triumphs, and slip-ups I’ve had since, I’ve decided to tell you "about" one thing: how I lost my dream job.

Here's what happened:

Thanks to a lot of hard work and a bit of good timing, I landed a director role in my twenties. I went from new-on-the-scene, but-packing-the-right-degree-and-attitude to suddenly-in-charge-of-a-lot-of-important-stuff.




I was also plan-less, mentor-less, and completely overwhelmed. Despite my passion, energy, work ethic and whole-hearted belief in what my company was doing, I flailed.

I didn’t know what I didn’t know and I didn’t know where to go to close my experience gap.

The thought of fumbling my dream job so early on in my career was, at the time, just too much for me to bear. So I took action…

....and quit.

It's so hard for me to say those words. I quit.

Instead of leveraging the incredible opportunity I had earned, I choked. 

Not you.

Looking back, now with ten years of managing and, yes, 'directing' experience under my belt, I realize that, had I taken a moment to gather myself - and a few key management tools, strategies, and resources - I could have come up with a plan that would have helped me make a tremendous impact on my organization, customers, and career from Day One.

Now, I've taken those ten years of experience and developed the exact management program I wish I had had to jump-start success in my leadership role despite my age and (lack of) experience.

So that's my 'why' behind creating, but what you really need to know isn't 'about me' at all.

It's about the would-be-amazing leader in you. isn't "about me" and, honestly, it isn't about you.

It’s about the would-be-amazing leader in you.

And, at same time, it’s about the leader you might not ever become because in 99.9% of workplaces, decent leadership training just doesn’t exist.

  • It’s meant for leaders who understand that they are in position to make work meaningful.
  • It's meant for leaders who don't mind colorful language.

Ah, yes. I swear.

Not much, but some. If swearing were measured in hot sauce intensities, mine would be mild. If you find swearing offensive, then you might find offensive. Mildly at least.
